We’ve all heard the saying, “sleep on it.” Ever wonder why sleeping on it brings clarity.
Some might say, you have a clearer head in the morning or after rest.
I think the saying stems from the magical insights that arise in the hypnopompic state.
By hypnopompic, I mean that edge of wakeful sleep. The moment one is fully aware yet knowing you are asleep…simultaneously.
It’s like the door is open between your immediate circumstances and the deeper, more comprehensiveness larger reality. It’s an extremely satisfying experience. Profound shifts can emerge.
And as one re-enters into ordinary activity (over the hour or two depending how deep you go), you are ever so mindful of a full renewal like none other.
I call it “Hypnopompic Meditation” and encourage riding the wave of it for an enhanced meditation experience.
I believe it is an easier practice for an experienced meditation practitioner. Yet I have also seen it serve as a bridge in introducing meditation to a patient for the first time.
More on this in future writings.
